Southport Man Charged with Firing Gun at Tree Service Employees

Bay County Sheriff’s deputies report 50-year old Robert James Reiter Jr. was arrested after officers arrived at his home on Sandra Grace Road. The BCSO say Witnesses report he fired a rifle at two workers for H&H Tree Service.

Robert Reiter Jr did commit the offense of Aggravated Assault by intentionally and threatening an act to do violence to the person of another, coupled with an apparent ability to do so, and doing some act which creates a well-founded fear in such other person that such violence is imminent To Wit: A Supervisor with H&H Tree Service, who is contracted by Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative to trim and remove trees from near the power lines and spoke with the Defendants wife informing her that they would be working in front of their house this morning. The Defendants wife asked if they could delay the work until thursday which was agreed upon by the Supervisor.
As employee Chance Knowles (Victim) and a co~worker were walking down Sandra Grace Road in front of the Defendants residence, he saw the Defendant stumble out of the side door of his residence. The Victim saw the Defendant walk to his vehicle, remove an unknown type of firearm I rifle and shoot it towards the road in their general direction. The Victim stated him and his co-worker were in fear for their life so they took off running down the road. The victim stated they looked for somewhere to hide but was unable to locate anywhere do to all the yards having fences. The Victim stated that he was scarred that the Defendant would come out into the roadway and shoot at them again. After making contact with the Defendant, your affiant noticed that a strong odor of alcoholic beverage was emitting from his person. He also made a spontaneous statement that he “had several beers” and that he “lives in the County and can shoot his gun if he wants!” Based on the evidence presented, the Defendant is in Direct Violation of F.S.S 784.021 Aggravated Assault with a Firearm. This offense occurred in Bay County Florida.
