On July 3rd, 2013 at approximately 3:54 p.m., officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to the area of Old Cottondale Rd. and Penn Ave. in reference to a traffic accident involving three vehicles. Once on scene officers cleared the roadway and one of the vehicle’s drivers was transported to Jackson Hospital to be treated for possible injuries. On scene Officers received information that the driver of one of the vehicles who was identified as Johnnie Edward Speights had thrown some alcoholic beverages into the bushes after the accident. Officers were able to determine Speights was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and he was placed under arrest for D.U.I. with property damage. Speights was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility where he will await first appearance.
