Gulf Coast State College to Offer Financial Counseling Program for Students

Panama City, FL –Gulf Coast State College has partnered with American Student Assistance, a nonprofit organization, to provide a new product to students and recent alumni called SALT. Starting in September, GCSC will provide this free, comprehensive program to help students become financially literate during college and beyond.
SALT is a dynamic, multichannel financial education and debt management program. SALT educates, empowers and engages students to truly own and understand their finances so they can make smart decisions about their money and student loan borrowing. “We are very excited to provide this tool to our students and alumni,” said Chris Westlake, Director of Financial Aid. “It’s great for folks to be able to learn how to manage their money, learn about credit, learn how to make good financial decisions, manage their student loan debt, search for scholarships and jobs all in one easy to use website.  This service will also assist alumni by providing a human being they can talk to about the various repayment options available to them.”
The program is available to all students and recent alumni. Signing up is easy and can be completed in just a few minutes by visiting the website at www.saltmoney.org/gulfcoast.
Students and alumni will receive:
- Proactive communication about student loan repayment options.
- One-on-one repayment counseling with student loan experts.
- An online dashboard to track all their federal and private student loans and compare payment options.
- Highly interactive online financial education content.
- Multiple “self-serve” online tools and calculators to assist with budgeting.
- Advocacy and assistance with resolving complex student loan related problems.

“We pride ourselves on offering some of the lowest tuition rates in the state, so our concern is to always be affordable,” explained Dr. Jim Kerley, GCSC President. “This program will cater to every student, whatever their financial situation and provide counseling on a personal level to find the right fit for each student.” August 20, 2013
