~ GCSC’s radio station will drop National Public Radio (NPR) among other changes to programming ~
Panama City, FL –Beginning October 1, Gulf Coast State College’s radio station, WKGC (GC90.7 FM), will discontinue its affiliation with National Public Radio (NPR) and start airing BBC World News. Locally produced news, blues and jazz programs will remain a hallmark of the lineup while NPR news programs such as ‘Morning Edition’ and ‘All Things Considered’ will be replaced with ‘BBC News Hour.’
As Northwest Florida’s local public radio station for more than 40 years, the station remains dedicated to providing programs focusing on local news, entertainment, arts and cultural events. It also serves to educate and train broadcasting and communications students through College’s communications and digital media courses.
“Change is never easy and this is a big one,” said Harley Pummill, Operations Manager. “But with the community’s continued support, I am confident that not only will GC90.7 FM weather the change, it will emerge as a stronger station, better serving the listening needs of this area by offering diversity and a clear choice to the audience.”
General Manager Chris Thomes agrees. “We are thrilled to be able to offer the BBC News to our listeners. It is such a respected source of news and is a great complement to our locally produced news segments. This is a real ‘win-win’ for our listeners.”
