The Bay County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of Pedro Reyes for Sexual Misconduct between detention facility employees and inmates.  Reyes was employed as a detention corporal at the Bay County Jail.
On Friday, November 8, information was received by jail administration that Reyes had been involved in sexual relations with a female inmate at the jail facility.  A criminal investigation was initiated by the BCSO Criminal Investigations Division.
The female inmate advised that the activity occurred in a storage area of the laundry facility at the jail, where Reyes is the laundry facility supervisor.  The inmate stated that the sexual activity occurred on approximately three occasions from mid to late October.  It appears that the sexual activity was not forced, however, due to the custodial relationship in the detention facility, sexual activity is illegal.
On November 12, Reyes admitted to investigators that he had engaged in sexual activity with the inmate on at least two occasions.  Reyes was placed under arrest, and his employment has been terminated.
Information has been developed that indicates that Reyes has possibly engaged in sexual activity with other female inmates. The investigation into this activity is continuing and additional charges are possible.
Reyes is charged with Sexual Misconduct between Detention Facility Employees and Inmates, a third-degree felony.  He was booked into the Bay County Jail Facility, and subsequently transferred to the Washington County Jail.    Reyes had been employed at the Bay County Jail since December 2008.
