the arrest of Henry Don Ogden – for taking over $100,000 from a 94 year old victim in Bay County

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Henry Don Ogden, 46 years of age, in Randolph County, Arkansas. Ogden is believed responsible for taking over $100,000 from a 94 year old victim in Bay County.
The Department of Children and Families (DCF) received a hotline tip concerning the victim and a man named Henry Ogden purporting to be her “grandson”. A DCF investigator contacted the BCSO and an investigation into the allegations began.
After taking statements from the suspect and the victim, BCSO Criminal Investigators believe Ogden befriended the victim shortly after moving to Bay County in 2012. After reviewing bank records from February 2012 to May 2013, investigators documented withdrawals from the victim’s accounts totaling $131,789.56. This corresponded with deposits made into Ogden’s accounts.
Ogden often took the victim to the bank, claiming at times he was being paid for work done around her home, and at other times claiming to be her grandson. No evidence was discovered that Ogden performed work around the victim’s home to justify large monetary payment. Investigators believe Ogden was a person of trust and was using the victim’s funds for his own benefit and depriving her of money necessary to maintain her financial security. It is also believed the victim lacks the capacity to consent due to age and condition.
It was also learned that during the time that Ogden was taking the victim’s money and purchasing new vehicles and traveling, he was also receiving disability checks and food stamps.
When he realized that law enforcement was examining his bank records, Henry Ogden fled Bay County. Using investigation techniques, it was learned he went to Arkansas. The Bay County Sheriff’s Office made request to the US Marshal’s Service to adopt the case and locate Ogden and arrest him. With the assistance of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Ogden was located on December 2, 2013, by the US Marshals and arrested. He has been charged with Exploitation of the Elderly and is currently in the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office awaiting extradition to Bay County.December 05, 2013
