Gulf Coast State College Enactus Team Receives Grant

Panama City, FL – The Gulf Coast State College Enactus team, a community of student, academic and business leaders, was selected to receive a $1,500 grant to compete in the Sam’s Club Step Up for Small Business project. This project partnership mobilizes Enactus teams to empower a small business to strengthen their foundation for long-term success through improved business practices.
Enactus GCSC is committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to enable human progress. The team’s “Healthy Beauty” project will provide consulting to a local business owned by Gulf Coast entrepreneurship student Amy Stoddard. The Enactus GCSC project proposal will be managed by entrepreneurship program students Donna Newell and Debra Akins and will look into the potential opportunity of helping AJ’s Salon to become a franchise or licensing business model. By creating a new brand and process, and by adding new services to help people with their self-esteem and personal image, the “Healthy Beauty” project will work with all aspects of beauty from the inside out.
In the United States, there are 535 active Enactus teams with 21,232 students and 5,032 team community projects. Enactus GCSC was selected as one of the top 100 applicants for the project and is now competing for one of the top ten spots. Top ten winners will be announced at the Enactus National Exposition in April 2014, where Enactus GCSC will be presenting their top projects for the year.
“I am so pleased that we have started the Enactus team at Gulf Coast thanks to our new professor, Dr. Emmanuel Hernandez,” said Dr. Jim Kerley, GCSC President.  “I love the idea of getting college students thinking entrepreneurially and the grant is a great step forward for our team.”
