SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE LEADS TO DRUG CHARGES – two Wewa residents arrested

wewa useGulf County Sheriff Mike Harrison announces the arrest of Terry G. Baxley (53) and Brenda G. Gortman (59) of Wewahitchka. Baxley and Gortman were arrested yesterday, Thursday, August 21st, after Deputy S. Ferrell investigated a suspicious vehicle complaint in the area of Kemp Cemetery.
Deputy Ferrell located the described vehicles, one which was found running with the side windows covered with sheets and a sunshade used to block the view into the front windshield. Deputy Ferrell observed through a void in the sunshade that someone was using a lighter to heat a glass bowl attached to a pipe. Contact was made with Baxley who dropped the pipe onto the passenger floorboard and confirmed he was smoking meth. He was placed under arrest. Gortman was also seated in the vehicle with Baxley and was the vehicle’s registered owner.
A search of the vehicle yielded the discovery of $154 cash, small plastic baggies containing Methamphetamine packaged for resale, small plastic baggies with Methamphetamine residue, Gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), small plastic baggies containing Cocaine packaged for resale, Alprazolam, a pill grinder, glass pipes, and digital scales. Baxley was also found in possession of a firearm while on posted property.
Gortman was arrested and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to distribute, Possession of GHB, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Baxley was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Trespass with a Firearm. Both were transported to the Gulf County Detention Facility and first appeared this morning. Gortman was released on a $28,000 bond. Baxley remains in custody on a $3,500. The GCSO has impounded Gortman’s vehicle and will file for forfeiture.
