New York, NY – Governor Rick Scott today made the following statement regarding his call with Department of Defense Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter:“We appreciate today’s phone call with Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter and we will continue to urge the federal government to take swift action to end these forced furloughs. It is disappointing that the Department of Defense has not taken any action to end the National Guard furloughs, especially when we have provided the federal government several options on how to cut costs that do not impact our troops or disaster response efforts. It is crazy that National Guard families will see a 20 percent pay cut, and our state’s efforts to immediately respond to a hurricane or any other disaster will be weakened.”
