The Bay County Sheriff’s Office responded to an airplane crash this morning in the vicinity of the Sandy Creek Air Park.
At 7:23 am, the BCSO received a call from Tyndall Air Force Base advising that they were in radio contact with a pilot from a small aircraft that had lost engine power. Tyndall lost radio contact with the aircraft, and subsequently dispatched an aircraft to the area that located the wreckage of the aircraft approximately 1 mile to the east of the Sandy Creek airstrip in a heavily wooded area.
Responding BCSO Deputies were able to locate the wreckage, and found the pilot deceased. Investigators are working to identify the pilot, and notify next of kin.
The NTSB and FAA have been notified and are responding to investigate the cause of the crash.
